2018 Durif
King Valley
Single vineyard wine from Gehrig's in the King Valley.
Full bodied Durif reminiscent of those from the warmer Rutherglen Gl despite being grown in the King Valley.
"Machine picked, 90% put through crusher, 10% whole berries, open pot fermentation, matured in seasoned hogsheads for 16 months. A fully mature Durif, seven years old, and ready to go with something high in protein and hearty. It's got plenty of tannin, plenty of alcohol back-up for the rich, ripe black fruits, undergrowth, earth, rosemary, chocolate and dark spice; 88 points".

"A roar of stewed plum, violet and char on the nose is hard to ignore. The palate is ripe and cushioned with surprising freshness that brings balance. Its jammy core of fruit is framed by inky and savoury flavours. This is an up-front, ripe Durif that's not showing its seven years of age; 88 points".
